敘日:曷云乎圖考也?考泰山之形勝,而繪之為圖也。夫鴻濛始判,為物者萬,而惟流峙最大;為峙者萬,而惟嶽最大;為嶽者五,均之巍巍峻極,而惟岱最大。近則橫亙齊魯,跨引江淮;遠則雄峙九絃,霖雨四海,豈非華夷之巨觀,古今之崇鎮乎。顧欲以方寸赫號,總擘全勝,抑何難也。然自古考方辨域,必取諸圖,不然則周覽不能窮其勝,載籍不能紀其詳,即有高雅之士興起外游之想,曷從而觀焉。是用逮古證今,圖諸簡端。圖泰山,握坤軸也,而先之以星野,繫乾象也,圖嶽廟,以神所棲也,圖碧霞官,以世所崇奉也,圖周明堂,以帝王致治之蹟也,而附之以五嶽真形,則以泰山五嶽之宗,宜統會其勝也。維嶽降神,實生孔子,萬世宗之如泰山喬嶽,圖其廟而崇祀之,以表聖蹟重山靈也。夫天開圖畫,地湧丹青,豈人力哉?維玆繪事肖厥化工,俾世之觀覽者一披卷而對越介丘,恍乎明神陸降,勿勿乎欲其享之,則又非特豁目惠心,供勝𥃨游之適云爾。

右圖石刻岱祠圖說引《道經》云:『五嶽之神,分掌世界,人物各有攸屬。岱太山乃天帝之孫,羣靈之府,主世界人官職、生死、貴賤等事。』又引《抱朴子》云:『凡修道之士,棲隱山谷,須得五嶽真形圖。佩之則鬼魅蟲虎一切妖毒皆莫能近。』又云:『太初中,李充稱馮翊人三百歲,常負此圖。人或佩之渡江海、入山谷,或夜行宿兇房,邪魔、魑魅魍魎悉皆隱遁。虔供居地,必獲禎祥。』又嘗見萬花谷記西王母與上元夫人降漢武帝,帝視其巾器中有小書,乞瞻覽,母曰:『此五嶽真形圖也,乃三天太上所出,豈汝所宜佩乎?』帝乞不已,與之,藏柏梁臺。

余按諸說雖不可知,然此圖類古符篆,必有所自,而五嶽之神亦不可誣也。存之將以資博識云。
